ABBYY Launches Special Version of FineReader 9.0 OCR and PDF Conversion Application for Thai Users

Moscow, Russia (October 20, 2008) — ABBYY, a leading provider of document recognition, data capture and linguistic software, today announced a special release of its FineReader 9.0 Corporate Edition for the Thai market. ABBYY FineReader 9.0 is an award-winning optical character recognition (OCR) and PDF conversion application that allows users to readily transform document images and PDF files into editable and searchable electronic formats. This version delivers multilingual OCR capabilities including powerful Thai OCR and provides the Thai user interface language. The new version is available today in Thailand through ABBYY's authorized Asia-based partner Pericom Imaging Systems (Thailand) Co., Ltd.

“With the inclusion of the Thai language in both recognition technology and user interface, ABBYY FineReader is now available to nearly sixty five million more people,” said Sergey Popov, director of the FineReader product department. “We are proud to offer our new customers in Thailand this special product with the help of our partner Pericom Imaging Systems.”

“Pericom is focused on providing leading edge document recognition solutions for the Thailand marketplace,” said Derek Lee, CEO, Pericom Group of Companies. “We are confident that ABBYY, as one of our best-of-breed solutions providers, is now in an ideal position to take advantage of our in-depth understanding of the Thailand market as well as our extensive experience in channel development and management.”

The Thai OCR technology development became possible thanks to the professional support of ABBYY’s strategic partner in Thailand – Summit Computers Ltd. “One of the main hurdles for Thai OCR is the multilevel structure of words and text lines,” explains Popov. “Text strings are composed of up to four levels of various character types and have no spaces between words. At present, ABBYY FineReader 9.0 is the only application in its class to provide professional-level Thai OCR.”

ABBYY FineReader 9.0 Corporate Edition recognizes a total of 184 languages and provides the broadest language support combining European, a range of Asian, African and Middle East languages in a single package. It delivers powerful networking features such as support for network scanning devices, distributed OCR, concurrent licensing, and automated installation from the server. This is an ideal solution for small and mid-sized companies and departments, which provides a cost-effective and time-saving alternative to manual retyping.
