ABBYY FineReader Professional 6.0 and Corporate Edition will be available to GEM’s network of retailers
Moscow, Russia, July 31, 2002 – GEM Distribution, the UK’s leading specialist trade distributor of consumer and business technology and ABBBY Software House, a technology leader in document recognition and linguistic technologies, today announced a distribution deal that will see GEM supplying ABBYY’s new FineReader optical character recognition (OCR) products to its network of retailers.
GEM regularly supplies products to over 3,000 UK stores and will now carry FineReader Professional 6.0 and FineReader Corporate Edition 6.0 to this network.
The recently launched ABBYY FineReader® Professional 6.0 OCR software delivers advanced text recognition allowing users to easily convert paper-based documents and scanned pages into computer files that can be edited, sent, or archived. FineReader Professional 6.0 builds upon ABBYY’s widely recognised technology with significant improvements in word accuracy and format retention, new ease-of-use features and added saving options, including PDF conversion. FineReader Corporate Edition 6.0, a version specifically designed for networked offices, offers added functionality such as concurrent license management, barcode recognition, and export via Open Document Management Access (ODMA).
In addition to the UK, FineReader products are available in more than 75 countries worldwide including most of Europe and the United States. Limited and trial versions of FineReader products are also available worldwide through software bundles with scanners from such leading manufacturers as Compaq, Lexmark, Mustek, Microtek, Acer, Avigramm and UMAX.
We are delighted to offer ABBYY’s range of products to our retail network”, said Paul Donnelly managing director of GEM. “The quality of the FineReader range speaks for itself and with the new version offering even better word accuracy and format retention we are very pleased to be stocking this product”
“GEM has an extensive and well established distribution network in the UK as well as a high-level of experience and knowledge,” said Jupp Stoepetie, CEO of ABBYY Europe. “We feel that this qualifies them as the best company to distribute our product range and we are looking forward to a very successful business partnership”.
